The risks to privacy from collecting and storing personal information.

The two common ways to store personal information or data is with a physical data storage like a SSD, or cloud storage which is stored through the internet. Hard drives are usually already in your computer, it is the default storage when you download files in a browser or from another hard drive. Cloud storage is data stored in a separate storage in which you upload your files through the Internet. Cloud storages are typically safer in storing data as providers of this service take repercussions such as security measures and government regulations that are protected by law to ensure further safety of data. Personal hard drives are much more easily breached as they usually lack the security repercussions needed to keep data safe.

Both types of data are popular in storing data; both have their risk in which we will go in detail in. For hard drives, as previously mentioned, personal drives are easier to breach as they are mostly personally managed and if the person isn’t particularly tech savvy, there will be loose ends in security which could lead to breaches in your privacy and personal information. Once your information is breached, criminals could get ahold of your banking, address, personal name, and other sensitive information that criminals may use to impersonate you or steal from you. Generally the safest way to store data is through cloud storage since cloud companies take extra precautions in exerting security to ensure the customer’s data safety. But there isn’t a ‘fool-proof’ system of protecting your data, just be careful where you share or put your data out there since there are people always looking for exploitation.





How can computing resources be misused and how can it be protected?

Computing resources are really powerful nowadays with the help of advanced A.I and continuous improvement in technology. Computing technologies are also pretty common and easily accessed through the internet, and with a command of anything you want, these computing resources would act immediately. One major issue right now is plagiarism with A.I, where the user could ask the A.I anything whether it may be to solve homeworks, test, or draw art, or ask the A.I recipes for disaster, without regulation the A.I would list or do the action fast.

Regulations and laws are being made in order to protect the public from the general harm of A.I, but since technology advances so fast there aren’t set in-depth rules yet for what A.I can or cannot do. Right now, A.I is prohibited to come up and give any information that consists of making harmful material, political bias that could stir the general public to misinformation, and/or any actions that would harm the public in any way.

How unauthorized access to information is gained?

Unauthorized access to information is only gained through loose security measures, carelessness, or the individual jeopardizing himself to breaches. There are many horrible people looking for ways to get access to one’s information as it could earn them cash by stealing bank information, or to commit fraud under your own name and such.

The usual case for breaches is carelessness. Many people are caught by phishing scams that appear on websites or emails, if the person is unaware, they may click suspicious links not knowing it is harmful. These links usually contain malware that will either steal or copy all of the contents of your device, or the malware may completely destroy your computer system. Many people fall victim to these malwares every year which is a major example for unauthorized access to one’s information.




How computing innovation can be beneficial and harmful.

Breakthroughs in computing innovations is arguably the modern day industrial revolution, its technology helped humanity advance so fast in the last two decades that the public jumped from big box-like computers to the first iPhone within the first decade of the 21th Century. Computing innovation helped solved arithmetic problems fast, helped put humans into space and the moon, it created new kinds of entertainment like video games and movies, it also help advance the medical field and find new cure for diseases, it developed attainable information for everyone, and it’s overall benefit is that it improved the standard of living.

Though just like every good thing, it comes with consequences, arguably its benefits still outway the cons, but it is still a big issue. For instance, a big example would be the controversy surrounding A.I, whether it is harmful or beneficial to the future of humanity is still being debated. Output from different people say that A.I is harming the working class as automation meant society no longer need the labor of humans—spurring job loss in the near future, also debates are whether humans are becoming more dependent on their technology than themselves, and the manufacturing of new deadly and accurate weapons that could cause mass destruction and death are the frequent brought up topics for the harmfulness of computing innovation.

How computing innovation can have impact beyond its intended purposes.

Beyond technological advancement that may bring improvements in life or destruction, computing innovations have also impacted the economy and society. Rapid developments in technology spurred a lot of new companies to pop out and increased demand for technology related jobs, which spurred a rapid amount of graduates from technology based fields of studies. With more companies competing to develop the next big thing and with a large amount of people studying technology, new big inventions are popping out every single year which then comes to the general market to be consumed. New technologies like phones, computers, cameras, virtual reality, Artificial Intelligence, or smart appliances are being introduced to the public on a frequent basis, this shapes how people consume material and develop new norms of life.

New technologies continue to increase the standard of living, more professional jobs are being sought after and people are supplying that demand. Despite current economical factors, the middle-class still continues to grow and businesses are still booming from new technologies, resources that contribute in making technology become more widespread: meaning more variety as technology needs all kinds of resources to be produced.
